✅CBFC

Dhurandhar The Revenge film got an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC, but the Enquiry Committee (EC) requested 21 cuts and changes.

Initially, there was a request for individuals to refrain from using harmful language and to modify certain offensive terms. However, the cut list did not address these problematic words. Instead, an alternative term was introduced that lacked derogatory connotations. In a couple of instances, a name was altered, possibly to an invented one, while another term was omitted.

In terms of visual edits, the scene where the hammer strikes the head was trimmed by two seconds. A brutal moment involving someone being struck with cement blocks was reduced by four seconds. There was also a recommendation to cut the four seconds of graphics depicting the eye break. Additionally, the footage of beheading and kicking was shortened by 24 seconds.

The Election Commission requested corrections in two areas: one pertained to a historical event (only in the subtitles), and the other involved the name of a city.

Furthermore, the directors were requested to include a distinct statement regarding drugs, which stated, “This film contains disturbing content, and audiences should exercise their discretion.” The chapter titles were provided in Hindi as well. For sequences featuring animals, the AWBI (Animal Welfare Board of India) certificate was provided. At last, they delivered an official letter granting permission to incorporate news footage and references to the Prime Minister in the film.

The CBFC ended up cutting 94 seconds, which is 1 minute and 34 seconds, from the tape. Following these changes, The Revenge was granted a censor certificate. The certificate states that the film has a runtime of 229.06 minutes. Dhurandhar Badla has a runtime of 3 hours, 49 minutes, and 6 seconds.

The initial phase of Dhurandhar took 214.01 minutes to complete. Well, the sequel clocks in at just 15 minutes.

🌍Social Message

Do we really need to depict this degree of violence in movies? What can we take away from a film that is packed with violent scenes, where some moments really showcase a lot of brutality? It’s entertaining, but will the film really succeed by relying on violence and vandalism? In certain moments of the film, the depiction of stabbing is quite explicit, which raises concerns about the impact of such graphic violence on viewers, especially younger audiences. I see the point that CBFC has issued an A certificate for the film, but let’s be real—these days, every movie hits OTT platforms after its theatrical run, making it super easy for anyone, including those under 18, to watch or download it.

What can you do to put an end to such violence? India is our homeland, not a Western society where violence is just considered a form of entertainment. In this context, cinema reflects our society, making it crucial for films to avoid violent and barbaric content whenever they can. “These are my individual thoughts.”
